About

Medford Judo Academy offers training in Danzan Ryu Jujitsu that includes falls and escapes, self-defense, and healing massage techniques. Classes begin with falls and escapes and then add advanced arts that give students a full range of self-defense options. Training includes both physical and mental practice within a philosophy of ethical and moral development.

• Ages: 14–18 years old
• Schedule: Classes meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6:30–8:30pm
• Price: Because Medford Judo Academy is a club rather than a for-profit business, it is one of the most affordable martial arts training opportunities in the Rogue Valley.

Medford Judo Academy is the oldest martial arts dojo in southern Oregon and the oldest Danzan Ryu Jujitsu dojo in continuous operation in the same location. The dojo’s long-time location at 104 W. First St. in Phoenix, Oregon, which it had used since 1960, was destroyed by the Almeda fire. The program is led by Professor Larry Nolte. Medford Judo Academy classes are now open for adults 14 and older. Every student is required to complete a research paper as a way to keep history alive.

Students of Medford Judo Academy also become members of the American Judo & Jujitsu Federation, the largest Danzan Ryu organization. The academy is also a member of the Pacific Jujitsu Alliance, Shoshin Ryu Yudanshakai, and Kilohana Martial Arts Association, and students are encouraged to join those Danzan Ryu organizations as well.
