About
Upward Bound Summer Academy is a six-week Summer Academy that includes academic activities, extracurricular activities, field trips to other colleges, career events, cultural events, and recreational events. Some students live in residence halls with a roommate, attend classes in university buildings, and eat in the campus cafeteria, while others commute from home to attend classes. All students must follow Western Oregon University and Upward Bound rules, as well as state and federal laws.
• Schedule: Six-week Summer Academy; Summer Academy Orientation on June 6, 2026; tentative Summer Academy dates June 21–July 31, 2026
• Price: There is no cost to attend, meals are provided, and students may receive a small stipend for participation.
Summer Academy Orientation is required for all students and at least one parent or legal guardian. Western Oregon University is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), with program accreditation that includes the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), and Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE), in compliance with the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission. Western Oregon University is located within the traditional homelands of the Luckiamute Band of Kalapuya, whose living descendants are part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
