About

Chris Dudley Basketball Camp is a week-long overnight camp where campers spend their days practicing basketball skills, playing in intense basketball tournaments, and taking part in fun contests and games. Campers work one-on-one with experienced coaches, counselors, and a medical team while playing a vigorous sport and managing Type 1 Diabetes. During the week, campers work with Chris Dudley on basketball skills and have the chance to talk with him about life with diabetes and his experience playing in the NBA with diabetes.

• Ages: 10–17 years old
• Schedule: Week-long overnight camp running from June 26th to July 1st
• Price: The camp offers a sliding scale for tuition, payment plans, and “Camperships”. As the payment options may change year to year, families are instructed to contact the foundation office for current cost options.

The Chris Dudley Basketball Camp was founded in 1996 by NBA player Chris Dudley and his wife, Chris. It is a week-long overnight camp for youth with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), and campers come from all over the world to the state of Oregon to participate. The camp has a high staff to camper ratio, with about 75 campers and more than 45 staff, including over 25 experienced basketball coaches, trained camp counselors, nurses, doctors, and other medical staff. A full Night Staff stays up through the night and checks all blood sugars at 12 AM and 3 AM. Chris Dudley spends the week on the courts working with campers. The camp’s mission is “To empower and inspire all people with diabetes to live active and dream BIG!” Admission is based solely on a first-come, first-serve basis and not on basketball skill level, and any child ages 10–17 with T1D is welcome regardless of basketball experience. A Camp Store is open during camp week and at Check In and Check Out, selling CDBC apparel and accessories, and some Camp Store items are available year-round through an Online Camp Store. Sliding scale tuition, payment plans, and “Camperships” are offered to reduce financial burden.
