• Ages: 10–17 years old
• Schedule: Week-long overnight camp running from June 26th to July 1st.
• Price: The camp offers a sliding scale for tuition, payment plans, and “Camperships.” As the payment options may change year to year, families are instructed to contact the foundation office for current cost options.
Chris Dudley Basketball Camp is a week-long overnight camp for youth with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), ages 10–17, with a focus on learning how to play a vigorous sport while managing T1D. Campers come from all over the world to the state of Oregon to participate and connect with mentors and peers who understand the daily challenges of being an athlete living with T1D. The camp hosts about 75 campers each year with a staff of more than 45, including over 25 experienced coaches, counselors, and a world-class medical team, along with a full night staff that stays up through the night and checks all blood sugars at 12 AM and 3 AM.
The staff includes basketball coaches, trained camp counselors, nurses, doctors, and other medical staff. The Chris Dudley Basketball Camp was founded in 1996 by NBA player Chris Dudley and his wife, Chris, and was founded in 1996. Chris Dudley attends camp, works with campers on basketball skills, talks about life with diabetes and playing in the NBA with diabetes, and gets to know the campers. Admission is based solely on a first-come, first-serve basis and not on basketball skill level. The camp’s mission is “To empower and inspire all people with diabetes to live active and dream BIG!”
A Camp Store is open a few hours each day during camp week, and during Check In and Check Out, selling Chris Dudley Basketball Camp apparel and accessories such as sweatshirts, stickers, and water bottles. Some Camp Store items are available year-round through an Online Camp Store.
