About
Codesters Learn-to-Code Platform focuses on coding in Python, game design, and math topics such as statistics, probability, and geometry. The program uses an online learning environment where students create interactive projects and apps with sprites, animations, graphics, and interactivity. Students work through built-out, project-based lessons that use a drag-to-text toolkit and a Physics toolkit to guide them in text-based Python coding and game creation, and then modify their code to create custom projects.
• Schedule: Online learning environment; students can log in and work on lessons at their own pace
• Price: Free Project page available for coding
Codesters Learn-to-Code Platform includes a learning management system (LMS) that allows teachers to enroll students in classes, assign lessons, and track progress. Students’ work is automatically graded, collected, and returned to the teachers’ dashboard. The platform integrates coding into core academic classes with standards-aligned math lessons where students create simulations and games for statistics, probability, and geometry. The program is used in districts including Covina Valley USD, CA, and Broward County Schools, FL.
One teacher shared that some students who struggle in math class became leaders when it came to programming, and that other students asked them for help. Another teacher reported using Codesters for two years to teach coding and said it opened students’ eyes to a new way of seeing the world. Teachers also noted that the environment provides a differentiated experience for all students, that students are highly engaged and sometimes log on from home to work on lessons, and that the curriculum engages students with no coding experience as well as those with multiple prior coding opportunities.
