Founded in 1990, International School of Portland educates approximately 400 students from age 3 through 5th grade and offers full immersion in three separate language tracks (Chinese, Spanish, Japanese) under one roof. The school has been an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School since March 2010 and was the first International Baccalaureate elementary school in the Pacific Northwest. International School of Portland was recognized by PDX Parent as “Best Foreign Language Camp.”

Camp staff are all trained in CPR and First Aid. Many camp teachers have native-level fluency or experience in the languages they teach, and all Early Childhood teachers are natively fluent speakers of the immersion languages, hold bachelor’s degrees, and have many years of experience in early childhood education. International School of Portland has a dedicated Health & Safety Coordinator on campus during camp hours, and the Global Kids Extended-day Program is available after camp until 5:30pm with snacks and enrichment activities.

The camp schedule includes drop-off from 8:00–8:15 a.m., camp day from 8:15am–3:15pm, pickup from 3:15–3:45pm, and extended-day until 5:30pm with additional sign-up. Each session is two weeks, with 2026 Summer Camp dates as follows: Session 1 from June 22–July 2 (no camp July 3 for Independence Day), Session 2 from July 6–July 17, and Session 3 from July 20–July 31. Enrollment is available through CampSite on a first-come, first-served basis, with waitlists for full camps and a low-enrollment cancellation policy that allows camp groups to be canceled if minimum enrollment is not met two weeks before the session starts, with a full refund or transfer option.

The mission of International School of Portland is to provide a fun and safe environment for all campers and to nurture children’s natural love of learning by inspiring them to ask questions, pursue concepts that interest them, and share their knowledge with others. Because of its multi-language and cultural environment, the campus is described as a global microcosm that helps shape children who are open-minded, empathetic, kind, patient, and tolerant, encouraging them to take responsible action within and beyond the school community. The Deloris A. Spear Center for Excellence in Teaching aims to serve as a hub for educational innovation and professional learning in the Pacific Northwest.

Leadership for the program includes Global Kids Program Manager Becky Quick, Extended Programs Coordinator Matthew Willard, and Extended Programs Director Ryan Scheel. The Summer Administrative Team is available to answer questions and facilitate camp logistics. Campers need to bring a morning and afternoon snack in addition to lunch each day, while campers signed up for the Global Kids aftercare program have a snack provided by International School of Portland, and the campus is a nut-free campus.

Parent testimonials describe teachers as “absolutely incredible” and the environment as “warm” and “loving,” and note appreciation for small class sizes, academic excellence, and the International Baccalaureate program. Parents also highlight cultural and language immersion, school culture of inclusiveness and inquiry learning, and say their children are excited to go to school and that intellectual progress is evident.
