• Ages: 3–11 years old
• Schedule: Two-week sessions with camp days from 8:15am–3:15pm, a half-day option for Yellow group campers with 12:00pm pickup, and extended-day available until 5:30pm (advance sign-up required)

International School of Portland was founded in 1990 and has offered full language and cultural immersion for over thirty years. The school provides full immersion in three separate language tracks under one roof: Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish, and has been an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School since March 2010. International School of Portland was the first International Baccalaureate elementary school in the Pacific Northwest and has been recognized as a PDX Parent Best Foreign Language Camp.

Camp staff are all trained in CPR and First Aid. Camp teachers come from all over the world, and many have native-level fluency or experience in the languages they teach. Many teachers also work at the International School of Portland during the school year or have taught with the camp programs in the past, and early childhood teachers are natively fluent speakers of the immersion languages with bachelor’s degrees and many years of experience in early childhood education. The camp has a dedicated Health & Safety Coordinator on campus during camp hours.

The camp groups campers according to their age and experience with the target language, with small groups led by teachers from around the world. Enrollment is done via Campsite, campers are enrolled on a first-come, first-served basis, and required camper forms are completed in Campsite. If a camp group does not meet minimum enrollment two weeks before the session starts, that camp is canceled and enrolled campers receive a full refund or can transfer to another camp group. ISP’s Global Kids Extended-day Program is available after camp until 5:30pm every day, and enrollment in the Extended-Day program covers all camp days, Monday through Friday, during the session.

Campers need to bring a morning and afternoon snack in addition to lunch each day, and campers signed up for the Global Kids aftercare program receive a snack provided by International School of Portland. International School of Portland is a nut-free campus.

The school’s mission states that it offers full language and cultural immersion in a warm, loving environment that encourages curiosity and kindness, and that its multi-language and cultural environment creates a global microcosm that shapes children to be open-minded, empathetic, kind, patient, and tolerant, encouraging them to take responsible action within and beyond the school community. The school is home to The Deloris A. Spear Center for Excellence in Teaching, which aims to serve as a hub for educational innovation and professional learning in the Pacific Northwest.

Parent testimonials describe teachers as “absolutely incredible” and refer to a “warm, loving environment that fosters creativity, inclusion, curiosity and kindness.” Other parents note appreciation for the IB program because “it teaches the children to question things as opposed to just absorb content,” and mention small class sizes, academic excellence, and “the kindness and joy” their family has experienced at International School of Portland. Parents also highlight cultural and language immersion that allows children to “experience the world beyond what we can offer her at home” and to participate in cultural celebrations and traditions, and they state that the school culture of inclusiveness and inquiry learning aligns with their values.
