Since 1984, Hancock Street Preschool has operated as a cooperative preschool for three- and four-year-old children. Each of the two classes, the three-year-old “Red Class” and the four-year-old “Blue Class,” enrolls 18 students. The program follows an anti-bias curriculum approach inspired by specific early childhood education authors and emphasizes learning through play supporting development of the whole child, along with a strong home-school partnership and cooperative model involving families.

Teacher Becky (Becky Brink) has over 18 years of experience in Early Childhood Education, including Preschool, Pre-K, and Private Kindergarten classrooms, and has completed intensive trainings through OAEYC and other private programs, including specialized programs for inclusion of children with special needs and trainings that promote early literacy in classroom and home environments. Teacher Shelby began her teaching career as a Kindergarten teacher, has experience teaching music in after-school programs, and holds a degree in Elementary Education from Auburn University. Hancock Street Preschool is accredited by the Oregon Department of Education to accept children with special needs.

Hancock Street Preschool states that it is dedicated to excellence in early childhood education, offering a developmentally appropriate, play-based curriculum with meaningful real-world experiences, and promoting an environment that encourages creativity, curiosity, and community while embracing the role of life-long learner for children and adults. The program is committed to a strong home-school partnership, honoring the diversity of families and welcoming the uniqueness of each individual. In addition to her teaching role, Becky volunteers as a youth and teen mentor for her local church and serves as a civilian advocate for vulnerable children in the foster care system. The school shares quotes that reflect its educational perspective, including John Lubbock’s “The important thing is not so much that every child should be taught, as that every child should be given the wish to learn,” and Joseph Campbell’s “The job of an educator is to teach students to see the vitality in themselves.”
