About
IN A LANDSCAPE: Classical Music in the Wild presents classical music concerts as an outdoor concert series where America’s landscapes replace the traditional concert hall. At each event, a 1912 Steinway Model D concert grand piano travels on a flatbed trailer to the site, and music is transmitted to guests through wireless headphones so they can explore the surroundings while listening. IN A LANDSCAPE classical piano concerts welcome all ages, and concerts take place rain or shine.

Founded in 2016 by classical pianist Hunter Noack, IN A LANDSCAPE is now in its 10th season and is named for the piece “In a Landscape” by John Cage. The program’s mission is to connect people to nature and classical music through concerts that are accessible to all. Hunter Noack studied at Interlochen Arts Academy, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the University of Southern California (B.M.), and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (M.A.), and his album “In a Landscape” debuted at Number 1 on Billboard charts for Traditional Classical Music. The leadership and staff team includes Executive Director Lori Noack, Pianist Hunter Noack, Operations Manager Pam Beezley, Administrative Manager Chelsea Bushnell, Donor Relations Manager Indira Faherty, Box Office Manager Emily Johnstone, Marketing Manager Marlo Lopez, Sound & Tech Engineer Ryan Bley, Site Manager Daniel Considine, Photographer/Production Specialist Arthur Hitchcock, Front of House Manager Iris Asher, and members of the Board of Directors including President Craig Compiano, Treasurer Suzanne Bishop, Secretary Tammy Teske, Karen Bartelt, Hunter Noack, Lori Noack, Sandy Rowe, and Jordan Schnitzer.
IN A LANDSCAPE events are offered in rural communities for free or on a subsidized basis, and over $100,000 in free tickets are given away each year. Through the Good Neighbor program, tickets are provided to individuals and groups who would otherwise not be able to attend concerts. Headsets are included in the price of the ticket and are part of the experience, and personal headphones do not receive a signal. Guests are asked to bring their own camping chair or blanket because seating is not provided, and those who bring high-backed chairs are asked to be mindful of blocking the view of others. Guests are encouraged to bring rain, sun, or heat protection depending on the weather forecast, and smoking is prohibited at all IN A LANDSCAPE concert sites.
