Portland Thorns Academy offers soccer training that includes both outdoor soccer and Futsal training for younger teams. Players take part in video analysis through game film and video review sessions, and each player receives individual development plans and evaluations. The program also includes informational sessions on the college recruitment process and 1 on 1 recruitment meetings.
• Schedule: Training up to 3x per week
The stated mission of Portland Thorns Academy is to empower female athletes to develop into women of character and community leaders, and to prepare players for youth national teams, collegiate and professional opportunities in a positive, player-centered environment with a focus on a “One Club” mentality.
Program features include videotaping of all league and national event matches, all expenses paid video highlight tapes with LM Premier for all rising sophomores, and an athletic trainer at all games with Providence Play Safe Injury Management enrollment. Community involvement and exposure elements include monthly opportunities to interact with Thorns FC players and coaching staff, recommendations to and scouting by U.S. Youth National Team scouts and college coaches, and regular attendance of college coaches to high school age teams at games and national events. Additional connections to the Portland Thorns first team include tickets to Thorns FC home games for players when the team is playing, opportunities to be ball kids at Thorns FC home games, potential training opportunities with the Thorns first team, Thorns Academy recognition or introduction at a Thorns FC home game, opportunities to observe first team training, and first team coaching staff observing and running training sessions.
