Catalyst: NWCT’s Youth Company is an advanced training program for performing arts and technical and design theater students ages 12 to 18. Participation in Catalyst is by application and audition, or invitation only. Company members have access to self-selected projects, performances, classes, and workshops based on age and interest; Catalyst productions cast by the director based on students’ auditions and possible callbacks; and Mainstage productions cast by the director based on students’ audition submissions and possible callbacks. New Member auditions take place twice per year, in the spring and fall, and students must be at least 12 years old by the day of the audition to participate in Catalyst in the 2025–26 season. Students interested in technical theater and design only complete the Catalyst application. Students develop their craft under the mentorship of professional theater artists. Tuition assistance is available for qualifying students, and Mainstage performers of all ages are paid. The main goal of Catalyst is to facilitate learning by doing. For auditions, students memorize a monologue under one minute, learn a dance that is performed in groups, and are taught a song at the audition with no advance preparation needed.
