About

Sherwood Dance Academy offers classes in Acro, Ballet, Jazz, and Tap. The studio has three classrooms where students of different ages come to learn, grow, and express themselves through these dance styles. Programs include Jump Start for introducing dance to children, Building Blocks with Acro, Ballet, Jazz, and Tap, Classical with advanced Ballet and Pointe, and Showstoppers, which is Sherwood Dance Academy’s performing company.

• Ages: 2–18 years old
• Schedule: The 2025–26 Dance Season runs from September 3rd through June 13th, with performances in December 2025 and June 2026.

What began in Old Town around 2001 with just a handful of students and a single classroom has grown into a larger program with multiple classrooms and program tracks. The stated mission is “Empowering Students and Community Through Dance,” with an emphasis on compassion, creativity, gratitude, celebration, and service. Sherwood Dance Academy notes that anyone who wants to dance is welcome, and that for them, dance is described as art rather than a competition.

Many of the proceeds from performances go back to the community, including raising money for breast cancer support, annual food drives, and clothing donations for families in need, with the goal of leaving a lasting positive impact on both dancers and the wider community. The studio offers a Happiness Guarantee for new students, where if a family decides the studio is not the right fit in the first month of classes and withdraws, some or all of the tuition payment is refunded. Sherwood Dance Academy is now enrolling for Summer 2026 and the 2026–27 Dance Season.

Parent testimonials describe students feeling welcomed and celebrated, developing a love for dance, and experiencing growth in both dance skills and personal confidence. Parents also describe the studio as positive, supportive, and inspiring, and mention that instructors meet students at their current level of experience and emotional growth, encourage a growth mindset, and focus on both dance and community involvement.
