• Ages: 7–17 years old
• Schedule: 7-day residential camp with REG campers focusing on one primary activity each morning Monday–Friday and rotating with cabin mates through other activities in the afternoons
Building relationships, learning new skills, and having fun in a positive environment has been Big Lake Youth Camp's stated goal since 1962. The mission of Big Lake Youth Camp is described as building relationships, learning new skills, and having fun in a positive environment, with a week at camp providing an environment to gain better self-awareness, set and achieve goals, and enjoy a Christ-centered program that illustrates faith in action as fun. The camp has a Christian affiliation and identifies its program as Christ-centered.
Big Lake Youth Camp offers several distinct program options. REG Camps are the core 7-day program where campers choose a primary activity for morning focus Monday through Friday and then rotate through other activities in the afternoons. RAD Camps provide on- and off-site experiences focused all day on a chosen activity for teenagers ages 13–17. Adventure Camp is structured with a slower pace and a shorter week to introduce younger children to summer camping, and in this program campers try all activities instead of selecting one primary activity.
The camp also runs Abba's Child Grief Recovery Camp, which is a free week of camp for children ages 7 to 17 who have experienced the death of an immediate family member in the recent past. Abba's Child includes support-based counseling and two-hour support group sessions scheduled daily for participating campers.
For older campers, Big Lake Youth Camp offers several training tracks. The RAD to Staff program is for teens ages 15–17 and includes leadership training and mentorship with a staff member, with a certificate of achievement given upon successful completion. The Counselor in Training (CIT) program involves assisting a counselor with a cabin of 7–9-year-old campers. The Staff in Training (SIT) program allows participants to observe and try staff roles such as land activities instructor, water activities instructor, office or headquarters staff, and maintenance staff. The Wrangler in Training (WIT) program focuses on working with wranglers and horses and assisting in the horsemanship program, and it requires some basic horse experience. Participation in the RAD to Staff, CIT, SIT, and WIT programs does not guarantee a future staff position.
