About
Camp LEAD is a week-long camp where participants explore outdoor-related jobs during the day and get paid to work with outdoor professionals. During the week, they cook meals together, set up their sleeping quarters and tents, and take part in Camp LEAD games and curriculum. Participants complete light trail maintenance, tree trimming and fire fuels reduction, facilities maintenance, painting, and team-building, and they participate in the LEAD (Leadership, Empowerment, Advocacy, Development) curriculum.

• Schedule: Week-long sessions in July 2026, with 21 work hours over the course of the week
• Price: Compensation $16/hr.
2026 will be the 11th year of Camp LEAD. Each group of up to 10 youth is supervised by at least 4 counselors. A t-shirt, work-shirt, personal protective equipment (PPE), and all tools, camping equipment, and food are provided. Camp LEAD is part of Heart of Oregon Corps, whose mission is to empower youth and young adults through employment, job training, education, and service to Central Oregon communities. Heart of Oregon Corps programs engage 225 youth annually in workforce development and educational opportunities that involve projects such as public lands conservation, wildfire fuels reduction, building affordable housing, providing childcare for local families, and recycling. The COYCC bridge program offers up to 8 Camp LEAD participants an additional 3 weeks of work with COYCC crews, Monday through Thursday, from July 27th to August 13th. Required documents for I-9 verification include a U.S. Passport or photo ID (state ID, driver’s license or permit) and a signed Social Security card or birth certificate, and applicants are asked to upload these documents and banking information to set up direct deposit via Paylocity onboarding.
