Santiam Teen Center serves students in 7th–12th grades and operates under the parent organization New Growth Ministries. The mission of the Teen Center is to provide a safe, enjoyable environment where any teenager can engage in constructive, educational, and social activities with the help of trained volunteers. Trained volunteers and caring staff and volunteers are present to listen and interact, help with homework, job search, and life skills, and model healthy social interactions. The program requires an active guardian release within the last 12 months on file for youth to attend and use the facilities.
New Growth Ministries was founded in 2011 as a community endeavor in partnership with Safe Families for Children, a nationwide organization that equips churches and other nonprofits to support families in crisis. In 2018, New Growth Ministries adjusted its focus to open the Santiam Teen Center as an after-school program for youth in 7th–12th grade. The organization is a nonprofit that depends on the generosity of volunteers and donors for time, talent, and financial resources to serve youth in the community. The Teen Center is led by a Board of Directors that includes Hannah as Program Director, Sheri Jones as Secretary, Jane McCoy as Treasurer, and Tricia Frizzell as a Board Member, with responsibilities that include strategic planning, securing financial resources such as fundraising and grants, and providing direction and support for employee and volunteer staff.
