The camp is led by Camp Director Ben Messerly, a private tennis instructor with over a decade of experience coaching tennis camps in Oregon and Washington. His background includes working with top tennis players in the state, including district and state champions and collegiate tennis players, and he previously played four years of varsity tennis at Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale, Arizona, where he was team captain, a state qualifier in singles and doubles, and part of four district championship teams. He continued his playing career with the club tennis program at the University of Portland.
According to the mission statement, adidas top rated Tennis Camps were developed to provide athletes an opportunity to become better tennis players in a fun, positive atmosphere, with campers learning from coaches and leaving camp with confidence and a passion to enjoy tennis as a “sport of a lifetime.” Since 2001, eCamps Sports Network has developed over 100,000 young athletes at their camps nationwide.
Program features include low camper-to-coach ratios, grouping by age and ability level, a fun, energetic, and experienced staff, and supervision for the entire duration of the camp. Campers may have the opportunity to work with college and/or high school coaches and college players during the week, and each camper receives an adidas Tennis Camp T-shirt. Team discounts are available.
Campers are expected to bring all necessary tennis equipment, a refillable water bottle, and a bagged lunch and snack. Suggested items include a health form, tennis racquet(s), tennis shoes, a water jug or bottle, sunscreen, a bathing suit, and a hat. Campers are allowed to bring cell phones to contact their guardians, but cell phones are not allowed on the field during training sessions, and campers are advised not to bring expensive personal items such as laptops, with all personal items remaining the responsibility of each camper.
One parent, Maya G., stated that the coaches and staff went above and beyond to ensure everyone had a great experience for her daughter. Another parent, Jackson M., noted that a variety of drills, games, and scrimmage sessions kept camp exciting and challenging for his son. Camper Isabella R. reported learning a lot about technique and strategy and described the match play sessions as challenging and fun, with coaches pushing campers to become better players than when they arrived.
