About

WAC Kid's Art includes specific activities such as Acrylic Follies, Kid’s Art, an abstract start class painting a ram, and a kids art project for the 40th Annual NW Bug Run. Every Thursday evening, the program offers Acrylic Follies as part of its regular schedule. It caters to children ages 8–11 years old and coincides with the Woodburn Public School’s schedule.

Woodburn Art Center’s Kid’s Art program has a history that extends back over twenty years. The Woodburn Art Center has been serving the Woodburn community in the arts and art education since 1966, when ten local artists founded the Woodburn Art League and began meeting in one another’s homes to paint. In 1976, Ray Glatt donated a century-old farmhouse to the Woodburn Art League in memory of his late wife, Elizabeth, and her passion for the arts, and the house has been known as the Glatt House Gallery and home to the art league since then. In 1998, the Sindberg Studio addition was completed as part of the vision to expand the Glatt House.

The mission of the Woodburn Art Center is to promote, stimulate and extend individual as well as community development and appreciation of the visual arts through education, exhibition, sales and studio participation, and it welcomes all interested in appreciation and creation of art regardless of race, age, creed, gender, national origin or sexual orientation. The Glatt House Gallery is a professional fine arts gallery where each month a different themed art display features the works of one or more artists. Traditions begun by the earliest members, such as attracting high quality artists to offer classes, selling supplies, creating a lending library, and holding frequent art shows, continue today.

The kids art project for the 40th Annual NW Bug Run at the Woodburn Dragstrip Raceway in May featured creative Beetle-themed artwork, with pictures of the art voted on by Bug Enthusiasts and ribbons and prizes awarded to three artists: 1st Place – Matteo, 2nd Place – McKenzie, and 3rd Place – Nora. One testimonial from Anne, whose preferred medium is painting, describes the Art Center as a place of inspiration, social interaction, positivity, and help from fellow artists at all levels and in different mediums. Another testimonial from Steve, whose preferred mediums are oil and watercolor painting, describes how watercolor, life drawing, and print-making classes and Monday Open Studio have nourished and restored his “art life.”
