ASCEND Youth Programs and Camps offers activities that include bouldering, top-rope climbing, yoga, and slacklining. These activities take place on world-class climbing walls at an ASCEND Climbing Gym.

In 2011, friends and climbing partners Alex, Paul, and Aaron took their shared passion for climbing and community and built ASCEND Pittsburgh. The program is led by trained, professional climbing instructors and caring, experienced ASCEND counselors. ASCEND fosters an equitable, holistic, community-based, climbing, fitness, and yoga experience and exists to bring people together through movement and shared experience. ASCEND aims to make climbing as approachable and accessible as possible and is more than a gym, describing itself as a third place where people come to recharge, reconnect, and rediscover what makes them feel strong. ASCEND is proudly funded by more than 30 local family and friend investors and supported by local financing, and ASCEND gift cards are available in digital or physical form with customizable amounts.
ASCEND describes its role as part of a larger ecosystem of climbing, recreation, and community well-being throughout western Pennsylvania and beyond, and states a commitment to environmental responsibility, advocacy for access, and human rights, inclusion, and respect. Its community involvement includes supporting sustainable access, conservation, and responsible stewardship of climbing areas in the region, such as through SWPACC and Access Fund, and supporting underrepresented populations in the outdoor industry and recreation, such as through the Outdoor Inclusion Coalition. ASCEND also supports policies and initiatives that focus on economic well-being, healthcare access, and quality of life in the communities it serves. In partnership with Zero Waste Wrangler, ASCEND composts at ASCEND South Side and Point Breeze and has worked closely with Sustainable Pittsburgh, and it works with vendors, suppliers, and partners toward a more sustainable future. ASCEND lists partnerships with Southwestern Pennsylvania Climbers Coalition, Explorers Club of Pittsburgh, Venture Outdoors, BikePGH, Allegheny Mountain Rescue Group, NRAC, Climbing Wall Association, Climbing Business Journal, and Access Fund. The phrase “Find Your Summit In The City®” is associated with ASCEND.
