Stone Mountain Adventures Teen Summer Camp is a co-ed, non-denominational, overnight teenage summer camp with an intimate setting of around 60 campers per session, and never more than 60 campers per session. Campers can pick daily activities and have access to leadership roles, as well as Master Classes in rock climbing, mountain biking, or wakeboarding. Raystown Lake is used for water sports and mountain biking activities. Precautions are taken and safety is described as paramount, with seat belts, helmets, and life jackets always non-negotiable.
All counselors are over 21 years old, are described as well trained and equipped to lead groups both outdoors and in the cabins, and specialize in activities including wakeboarding, rock climbing, mountain biking, music, and horseback riding. Stone Mountain Adventures was founded in 1983 by Pam and Biff Houldin, and in the winter of 1987 they changed the camp name from Horsepower Adventures to Stone Mountain Adventures. The current Camp Director, Jud, grew up at the farm attending Stone Mountain Adventures as a camper and later working as a counselor, and he and his wife Anne bring a combined 40+ years of experience teaching in traditional and non-traditional school settings, coaching youth sports, leading international trips for high school students, and leading wilderness and mountaineering trips. The camp invites teens from across the country and around the world to share their summers at the camp.
The mission statement of Stone Mountain Adventures Teen Summer Camp is: “Here at Stone Mountain Adventures we create an atmosphere of freedom, fun, and personal challenge that is responsive to the pressures of the outside world but immersive enough to allow teens to find themselves and give them a summer to remember.” Testimonials from campers and parents describe experiences such as feeling free to be more true to themselves, appreciation for the care, instruction and love shared with campers, feeling welcomed as first-time overnight campers, enjoying activities like wakeboarding and white water rafting, and making many new friends.
