The Learning Lamp offers tutoring, preschool, summer camps, credit recovery, online learning, a before and after school program, and child care. The program also offers an affordable math tutor, free after school programs, and organizes The Children's Book Festival of Johnstown. It includes a Substitute Teacher Program (SMARTFIND) as part of its services to schools.
What started more than 10 years ago as a simple idea to provide children in Johnstown, PA with access to high quality tutoring without a high price tag has grown into a multi-faceted program that gives children, families, and schools greater options for improving academic achievement. The Learning Lamp is a nonprofit organization with a mission to engage all children with the support they need to succeed. It develops strong and productive relationships with more than 70 school districts it serves, helping them assess needs and find cost-effective ways to better serve students, and serves 28,160 youth and adults from 51 school districts and 69 other schools and organizations in 19 Pennsylvania counties. The Learning Lamp offers high quality, educationally-focused child care and a broad array of public programs, ranging from free after school programs to The Children's Book Festival of Johnstown. The organization is led by Lorraine Nulton, D.Ed, an educational psychologist. The Learning Lamp is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) and provider.
