Summer Adventures Camp includes arts and crafts, music, science, cooking, sports, nature activities, and traditional and backyard games such as kickball, volleyball, capture the flag, and high-energy group games. Campers take part in engineering challenges, investigate chemical reactions, explore optical illusions and the wonders of light and color, experiment with non-Newtonian fluids like slime and oobleck, and work on mind-bending puzzles. Activities also include discovering how the human body works during movement and sports, Winter Olympics–inspired activities, Olympic-themed crafts, ice skating, exploring nature trails and a creek, crafting with natural materials, creating animal habitat models and mini terrariums, nature scavenger hunts, lip sync battles, friendship bracelets, tie-dye, “bedazzled everything,” making and decorating treats, experimenting with flavors, growing ingredients, learning about the art of cooking and the science of baking, fun food-inspired games, and planning, designing, producing, and running the annual Summer Adventures Camp Talent Show.

• Price: Week One (Wild and Free): $375; Week Two (STEM in Action): $350; Week Three (Flavor Lab): $350; Week Four (Be Kind, Rewind): $350; Week Five (Mind-Bending STEM): $375; Week Six (Winter Olympics): $350; Week Seven (Eco Explorers): $350; Week Eight (Curtain Call): $350; the extra cost in Weeks One and Five covers additional field trip expenses.
Summer Adventures Camp is a summer day camp designed for children entering Kindergarten through 6th grade for the 2026–2027 school year, with a Counselors In Training (CIT) Program for students in 7th and 8th grade with limited spots and preference given to those who have attended the camp in the past. The camp includes one to two field trips per week that match weekly themes, such as an outdoor adventure park in Week One, the Lancaster Science Factory in Week Two, a field trip to create a treat alongside professionals in Week Three, a trip to see Toy Story 5 in Week Four, the Museum of Illusions in Week Five, ice skating in Week Six, the Delaware Museum of Nature and Science in Week Seven, and a trip to see a professional performance in Week Eight. The camp environment is described as safe, fun, and positive, where children can grow, learn, and make life-long friends, and it is located in a quiet park between the New Garden Township Building and the Southern Chester County Regional Police Department Building.
The Summer Adventures Camp leadership team includes Jamie Miller as Summer Camp Director and Melissa Hocking and Alisha Liljestrand as Assistant Directors. Jamie Miller teaches 3rd and 4th grade students in an after-school program and is fluent in English and Spanish. Melissa Hocking graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in nursing and has been a pediatric nurse for her entire career, working mostly at Nemours and more recently as a school nurse. Alisha Liljestrand graduated from Avon Grove High School, attended the University of Delaware, earned a degree in Human Services, and has been a hairstylist for 15 years.
Brandywine Valley Sports and Recreation, which runs Summer Adventures Camp, is a group of dedicated and like-minded individuals who have come together to support the community they live in and love. They are committed to providing programs that promote community health and connectedness, bringing together people of all ages through sports, fine arts, recreation, and education activities, supported by volunteers who are united by a common goal of improving the quality of local programs for families and the community to enjoy. Their mission is to promote family recreation, sports, fine arts, and other activities for children of all ages in Southern Chester County, with a stated goal to promote the development of leadership, character, creativity, sportsmanship, tolerance, discipline, athletic ability, and to nurture youth and family fitness, art and music appreciation, volunteerism, and a lifelong love of an active lifestyle. Brandywine Valley Sports and Recreation promotes and encourages community sports, fine arts, and recreational programs and services to families in Southern Chester County, Pennsylvania, and invites community members to get involved to support and shape the community.
