• Ages: 0–18 years old
Since 1998, Aaron’s Acres has provided children and young adults with disabilities something described by the program as possibility. The mission of Aaron’s Acres is to provide all children, regardless of ability and disability, with the opportunity to engage in recreational activities with their peers, separate and apart from a school setting. The program accepts all children and meets their needs accordingly due to professional supervisory staff, including nurses to address medical needs, and a low staff to child ratio, so that a child who has a seizure disorder or a child who is older and still wearing diapers can participate in all activities and receive support and accommodations. Aaron’s Acres is a non-profit organization that is non-discriminatory and accepts everyone regardless of disability, financial limitations, religious affiliations, race, or sexual orientation as staff, volunteers, donors, participants, and their families.
The leadership team includes Executive Director Risa Paskoff, Program Director Elaine Burnett, Program Coordinator Madison Heider, Manager of Finance & Administration Heather Good, Director of Development & Community Relations Kate Mullen, and Campus and Events Manager Elizabeth Gable. High school volunteers, undergraduate students, professionals in fields such as special education and occupational therapy, community service clubs, other non-profits, donors, and businesses have connected with Aaron’s Acres to create the Aaron’s Acres experience. The program describes its focus as embracing possibilities beyond disabilities, providing children and young adults with disabilities the possibility to learn, to grow, and to succeed despite any challenges, and working toward a more inclusive setting for everyone by building connections and relationships, with a stated priority on meeting the needs of individuals over the age of 21 moving forward.
