Camp Victory offers activities such as swimming, boating, fishing, archery, arts and crafts, biking, wall climbing, zip lining, nature walks, games in the treehouse, campfires, paddle boating, dance, talent shows, carnivals, and parties. Campers and counselors are assigned to one of 12 cabins, which include bunk beds for both campers and counselors and are located near the Bath House, dining halls, and the Med Shed. Camp Victory provides three full meals every day with plenty of food options, and special food needs are met, with menus that can be reviewed with staff before arrival.
• Price: Very little. Camp Victory works with corporate and individual donors, and seeks grants to cover operating costs. No camper is ever turned away due to lack of funds. In addition to being very low cost, each partner camp can apply for KidsKash, a special fund dedicated to those in need.
Camp Victory’s mission statement is “Camp Victory … A Special Camp for Special Kids.” The facility is designed specifically for kids with special needs, with accessibility features such as a ramp to the treehouse, specialty harnesses for the rock-climbing wall and zip line, and paved paths. Camp Victory has a state-of-the-art clinic, and the Med Shed is used for tasks such as daily medication distribution and primary care. Many campers are immune-compromised, medically fragile, and/or have needs a typical camp cannot meet, and all campers in partner group sessions have similar medical conditions and challenges.
Partner camp groups at Camp Victory have their own volunteer counselors who live with campers in the cabins, and medical staff are present among these volunteers. These medical professionals provide specialized care, including managing medication and prescriptions, first aid, and other needs required for the specific camps they are associated with. Camp Victory partners with more than 20 partner camps that provide camping experiences for kids with special needs, including groups for children with autism, cancer, kidney disease, spina bifida, seizure disorders, and arthritis. Every Wednesday at dinner, the “Pie Ladies” visit Camp Victory with a selection of pies for dessert.
