Camp SOAR includes daily art activities, educational activities, and gross motor movement activities that match the theme of the week. Each day also includes a daily exercise warm-up, physical activity, and an education rotation. Campers have swimming time, and Fridays are pool days when each group swims for 30 minutes.
• Ages: 5–12 years old, grades Kindergarten through 6th
• Schedule: Camp meets 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., with six themed weeks
• Price: You can pay by the day, with payment for each week due at the start of Monday morning, and full payment accepted at any time
Camp SOAR is a non-profit camp, and SOAR stands for STEAM, OUTDOORS, ARTS, and RECREATION. It is a technology-free program, and each of the 6 weeks has a different theme, with each day described as a new adventure. In a day, each child participates in an art activity, an educational activity, and a gross motor movement activity geared toward the theme of the week.
Each group has a lead teacher, a handful of junior counselors, and a few juniors in training, and each rotation has an additional lead counselor. The camp is staffed with educators, future educators, high school students, and teenage volunteers working for community service hours. Camp Directors are Amy Pidgeon and Jim Pilla, the Camp Nurse is Erin Banghart, the Administrative Assistant is Camille Clark, and the Treasurer/Accountant is Karen Landes.
The program asks families to send children with their own snacks. If a child does not know how to swim, the camp asks that the child wear a life jacket and remain in the shallow end.
Camp SOAR opened its doors in the summer of 2019. Over the last 8 years, it has been able to provide over $500,000 in employment and pay for the Clipper Organization to refurbish their field house. The mission of Camp SOAR is to develop a summer activity program like the one the founders were raised with, bring the program back to nature, keep it technology-free, give back to the Nazareth community, and focus on helping those within the community who need assistance, love, and support.
Camp SOAR works in conjunction with Nazzy Moms Unite to organize ways to support students, campers, and families within the Nazareth community. Over the past 8 years, it has set up scholarships for over 50 graduating NAHS seniors and given over $35,000 in college assistance. It has supplied families with camp tuition and helped families who have suffered losses with mortgage payments, utility bills, grocery bills, and Thanksgiving meals. The camp has given to local sports teams, sponsored local programs and churches, and donated to various booster clubs across the Nazareth School District, including $3,000 in scholarships and many donations to high school sports teams and activity programs in 2025, as well as $5,000 to help fund a new K9 program at the Nazareth Boro Police Department.
