About

Equi-librium Equine-Assisted Programs offers equine-assisted services that include horse-related activities and therapies such as adaptive riding, horsemanship, therapeutic carriage driving, equine-assisted learning, and hippotherapy. The program also runs a Mobile Miniature Horse Outreach Program that brings miniature therapy horses to different groups and settings. Over 100 participants take part in these programs each week, working with 15 specially trained therapy horses and a professional team that includes PATH Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors, Equine Specialists in Mental Health and Learning, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and mental health professionals.

• Ages: 0–18 years old

Equi-librium was founded in 1981 and was incorporated as an independent nonprofit organization in 2001. Its stated mission is to provide individuals the opportunity to reach their highest potential through the benefits of horse-related activities and therapies. The organization is one of only eight PATH International premier accredited centers in Pennsylvania and was the first in the state to offer therapeutic carriage driving as well as riding. It relies on over 200 volunteers each year to deliver program services.

Equi-librium serves individuals of all ages with physical, developmental, behavioral, and psychological challenges, as well as individuals who have experienced trauma. The Mobile Miniature Horse Outreach Program brings miniature therapy horses into schools, businesses, nonprofits, and community events, and these miniature horses are described as a great introduction for children and individuals who may feel intimidated around larger animals. The miniature horses allow Equi-librium to bring many of the benefits of equine-assisted learning on the road across the Lehigh Valley and Poconos.

Equi-librium values collaboration and partnership with local nonprofit organizations in the Lehigh Valley and Pocono regions to provide dedicated programming. It has been the official training center of Team Northampton Special Olympics equestrian team since 2013. Over the past year, Equi-librium has partnered with Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley, Bloom, RHD Mainstay United, The Children’s Home of Easton, Community Service for Children, Colonial Intermediate Unit 20, Northampton County Agency on Aging, and the Liberty High School Wellness Center, along with various Scout groups, public schools, and 4-H clubs.
