Steve & Kate’s Camp – Philadelphia runs on a model where campers choose which activities they do, whom they do them with, and for how long. The camp offers long hours from 8:00am to 6:00pm with no additional fees, and all-inclusive rates cover snacks, lunch, and any activities that interest the child. Families can buy any number of day passes, use them on any camp day, and receive automatic full refunds for unused Day Passes and partial refunds for underused Summer Passes, with no additional fees.

The program includes S&K Traditions such as Find Chuckie, Friday Pie-Day, and an end-of-summer Carnival Day with carnival games, extra treats, and chances to win prizes. Weekly Specials may feature giant inflatables, musical performances, movement workshops, and popup petting zoos, with the lineup to be announced. Additional offerings include Weekly Specials and guided activities and self-directed games with robotics.

Meals and snacks are included and feature options such as pizza, Caesar salad, tomato soup, bagels with cream cheese, and turkey and cheese sandwiches. Daily sides and snacks can include items such as bananas, yogurt, graham crackers, clementines, pretzels, snack bars, Smartfood popcorn, applesauce, string cheese, and kettle chips. In partnership with fan favorite restaurants, the camp provides food that aligns with this menu.

Steve & Kate’s Camp was created in 1980 and now has more than 90 locations from Manhattan to Manhattan Beach. The camp’s philosophy emphasizes kids’ independence, choice, and empowerment, with activities based on interests instead of age and flexible, refundable day passes. The program includes staff dedicated specifically to supporting youngest campers through Youngest Camper Support Staff, and Steve & Kate’s Camp offers mentorship programs for children aged 14 and 15, with availability that may vary by location. The camp age limit is 13, and if a camper turns 14 while attending summer camp, they may finish out the summer.

The Philadelphia camp’s leadership includes a Director named Sabrina. As summer approaches, registered families receive a link to a virtual camp orientation with details on local camp drop-off and pick-up procedures, daily check-in and check-out, what to bring or not bring, and other camp details.

The mission of Steve & Kate’s Camp states that during summer, the camp gives kids freedom to expand and evolve after being in rigid structure all year. The mission also states that campers choose their activities, companions, and time spent, and that this experience is described as both pure joy for kids and a training ground for life where they are empowered, independent, resilient, and responsible for their own decisions.

Testimonials about Steve & Kate’s Camp include comments from Andrew Stanton, Director of WALL-E, Finding Nemo, and Finding Dory, who says that children at the camp blossom and discover a freedom of identity and that kids find their thumbprint there. Apple’s Hot News states that if kids ruled the world, it might look something like Steve & Kate’s Camp. Variety magazine notes that many children of people at Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic attend, given the camp’s philosophy. The Washington Post describes Steve & Kate’s Camp as a blend of traditional camp with a modern, tech-savvy touch, with a laid-back aura and innovative approaches to programming and payment. The Chicago Tribune states that working parents’ worries dissipate as they contemplate Steve & Kate’s model.
