Since its founding in 1854, the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh has been part of the region’s history. The organization states that it focuses on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility and describes itself as more than a gym or community center, calling it a movement. Its mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh also offers food security initiatives and provides ways for community members to volunteer, support neighbors, give back, and take part in community change efforts.
