YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Summer Day Camps include activities such as swimming, arts and crafts, outdoor adventures, sports, and team-building games. Campers take part in themed experiences like an escape room challenge, an Eye Spy Take-Home Mission, launching colorful explosions, and The Great Goo Gauntlet. They also do projects and games such as taking home an environment-friendly plant, creating popsicle stick Cars characters, playing an action-packed game of tag, and joining dress-as-your-favorite-character days and family movie-themed events.

Campers may join activities like a light the path obstacle course, Everyone’s Birthday Celebration, high-flying straw rockets, creating a vibrant handprint macaw, a penguin waddle relay, a nature walk and hunt, and a kindness carnival. Some weeks feature Pittsburgh-focused activities such as designing a Terrible Towel, dressing like a favorite Pittsburgh or local sports team, and a family event. Additional creative and active options include Chalk Galaxy Art, a “don’t drop the asteroid” challenge, crafting mini torches, and a torch relay. The mission of YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Summer Day Camps states that when school is out, the camps keep kids active, engaged, and learning all summer long. The program includes traditional summer day camp, Discovery Camps with offerings that may include STEM, creative arts, performing arts, culinary skills, sports, and nature exploration, and overnight camp. The program notes that safe, fun, and unforgettable summers start at the Y, with safe and supervised settings, active and engaging daily activities, friendship and community, diverse programming, and values rooted in caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and it states that financial assistance is available.
