About
SLB Youth Media Center Programs include school workshops, youth journalism, oral history, self-advocacy, and podcasting programs. Participants take part in recording warmups, round table discussions, live performances, puzzles, conversation, and interviews as part of these programs. The programs are part of SLB Radio Productions, Inc., which also produces the weekly radio program called The Saturday Light Brigade.

SLB Radio Productions, Inc. states that its mission is to use radio and audio to amplify voices of youth and members of other communities whose stories are often marginalized, to educate, empower, and build community. The organization’s work began in 1978, when founder Larry Berger created a weekly radio program called The Saturday Light Brigade at age 17. Its studios were established in the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh in 2004 and expanded again in 2022 with the creation of a 3,500 sq. ft. Youth Media Center. Community involvement includes neighborhood oral history projects, a live broadcast of The Saturday Light Brigade, podcasting and studio services for organizations, and professional development and team-building for adults. The organization also maintains a Youth Express catalog of audio content.
