Camp Cadet of Somerset County is a weeklong camp where cadets take part in morning physical training, self-defense, team building, confidence and obstacle courses, rappelling, a climbing tower, and a ropes course that includes a zip line. The program includes cadets reciting The Call of Honor and hands-on activities such as a radar demonstration, a tour of the Pennsylvania State Police Barracks, and a trip to the Flight 93 Memorial Site near Shanksville. Cadets also attend instruction and presentations on patrol responsibilities, D.U.I. enforcement, criminal investigation, forensics, equestrian, Special Emergency Response Team (SERT), first aid/CPR, weapon safety, and sessions led by volunteer fire and ambulance company members, Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms (A.T.F.), United States Secret Service, Federal Bureau of Investigations (F.B.I.), and officers from the PA Game Commission, along with appearances by helicopters from the Pennsylvania State Police, Conemaugh Hospital, and the military.

The 2026 Camp Cadet of Somerset County will be held at Camp Harmony, and cadets stay in a barracks-style atmosphere and are introduced to military discipline similar to the Pennsylvania State Police Academy. Camp Cadet of Somerset County, PA is run by members of the Pennsylvania State Police from the Somerset County and Somerset Turnpike Barracks, along with local law enforcement and supporting adult and youth agencies, and it operates as a non-profit organization. The mission of the Somerset County Camp Cadet Program is to provide youth the opportunity to experience various aspects of the law enforcement community in a para-military structured atmosphere, with a disciplined environment presented to enhance self-awareness and self-worth, combined with a positive attitude to attain high self-esteem and a sense of accomplishment, while advocating teamwork and respect for others and self. All applicants are interviewed and screened, and no youth are admitted who have been involved negatively with law enforcement. All expenses for cadets are paid for through donations from the local community, businesses, and supportive individuals, and the week concludes with a graduation ceremony with parents in attendance.
