Young Actors Workshop

Young Actors Workshop offers workshops, winter classes, summer camps, and performance-focused training that include acting, choreography, music, stage combat, and creating unique characters on stage by changing voices, mannerisms, and posture. Participants work together to create short scenes for presentation, learn to portray staged confrontations safely using a variety of weapon types as well as unarmed and slapstick style techniques, and study the mechanics of altering speech to recreate specific sounds of different regional dialects and why certain regions sound similar or different. The program also includes work on short-form and one-act musicals, monologue technique, learning about short stories, parables, folklore, and tall tales, and combining elements from favorite stories into an original piece to be presented at final showcases or presentations for family and friends.

• Schedule: Winter Young Actors Workshop runs weekly on Mondays from 6–8pm in January and February, and Summer Camp is a daily two-week intensive Monday–Friday from 9:30am–3pm in July; additional winter 2025 sessions and the Dani Who Made a Deal with the Sun workshop run between early January and late March.
• Price: Registration fees range from $450–$500 per student with a $25 sibling discount and scholarships available; Winter 2025 Monologue Technique and Fairytales and Fables each cost $400, and the Dani Who Made a Deal with the Sun workshop has no tuition cost.

Young Actors Workshop is part of Montgomery Theater’s educational programs for local youth and includes options such as a bilingual musical, Dani Who Made a Deal with the Sun, in Spanish and English with all language experience levels welcome, where participants may perform or take behind-the-scenes roles and present a finished musical across two weekends of fully produced performances. Montgomery Theater also offers related youth opportunities such as Montgomery Theater, Too, a tuition-free program where students audition and perform in a two-show family-friendly series, and limited internships offered on a rolling basis. The Director of Education is Adam Danoff, and the theater’s mission includes offering educational programs for local youth and ensuring equitable access to the performing arts. Montgomery Theater was founded in 1993, has produced over 100 productions, stages five productions each year on its Main Stage and additional children’s and educational programming on its Project Stage, and has been nominated for multiple Barrymore Awards, including a win for Best Ensemble of a Musical for The Musical of Musicals.
