Refreshing Mountain Retreat and Adventure Center has been serving since 1983 and has a 40+ year history of service. Its mission is to provide clean, comfortable, and safe facilities where guests can be refreshed, while staff focus on cleaning, foodservice, maintenance, and technical activities so guests can focus on the retreat programming they create. In its activities, the stated mission is to bring groups and generations together to work for a common good, create an uplifting experience, teach truths for spiritual and personal development, and provide experiences that challenge participants to face inner fears, struggles, and insecurities, grow in faith, hope, trust, and love, and develop greater appreciation for one another.

The program hosts families, churches, schools, youth groups, corporate teams, and many types of groups that do not have a religious purpose, including school retreats, charities, and tour groups. It is described as a fun, Christ-centered, screen-free environment with year-round activities designed for all ages and is presented as an all-in-one retreat and activity destination with lodging, meals, and activities in one setting. It is family-owned with a hospitality focus and is described as a space to connect, grow, and enjoy the outdoors.

For ziplining and most high adventure activities, participants should be able to carry 20–30 pounds without difficulty, climb a flight of stairs, stand without assistance, and walk over uneven terrain up and down a moderate slope. For most high adventure activities, individual riders must be at least 5 years old, and for the Aerial Excursion Course, individual riders must be a minimum of 8 years old. All participants must not exceed 280 pounds, and at the zipline guide’s discretion, any rider under 60 pounds may need to ride tandem with a guide on certain lines. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult to complete the zip line courses, with a ratio of 1 adult per 3 children for the Aerial Excursion and Challenge Adventure Course, and an adult is defined as a person over the age of 18. Guests may bring a camera or camcorder if it is secured to the wrist or attached to the harness using the wrist strap, and cameras or anything around the neck are not allowed; any equipment brought is at the guest’s own risk and must be secured to the person for the tour.

The Aerial Excursion course uses a brake design system recognized as the safest approach to braking, with each zip line dialed in to allow gravity to work as a natural brake, and each line has a backup brake mechanism controlled by staff. The course uses a patented braking and retrieval system called ZIPKea on each line on the Aerial Excursion Tour, is operated as “Challenge By Choice,” and is described as an environmentally-friendly canopy tour. Zip line canopy tour courses are registered with the PA Department of Agriculture Rides and Measurements Bureau, and the courses meet or exceed the design standards of the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT). Zipline tour guides have been through extensive training, a state-certified inspector does a monthly inspection of the courses, and once a year a certified third-party inspector does an inspection.
