Its training choir, Canticle, is a non-audition preparatory chorus for ages 8–10, with every lesson described as hands-on, Kodály and Suzuki based, and Canticle performs in Winter and Spring Concerts with two additional Spring performances. Concordia is an intermediate choir for ages 11–13 that requires a brief audition and performs 5–6 times a year, including Winter and Spring Concerts. Cadenza is an advanced choir for ages 14–18 that performs 4-part music, tours, and sings for special community events, and some previous music experience is strongly encouraged for this group. South Hills Children's Choir performs in the International Children's Festival Chorus and has performed in the community and abroad, including at Carnegie Hall in New York City, Canterbury Cathedral and in London in the UK, as well as at Phipps Conservatory, PPG Wintergarten, The Frick House, farmer's markets, and games for The Pirates, The Wild Things, the Penguins, and the Riverhounds. The mission of South Hills Children's Choir states that it provides quality music education and artistic excellence through a variety of choral experiences and performances, enriches the lives of its many unique singers through personal and social growth, promotes a sense of discipline and accomplishment by developing well-rounded musical skill, and centers instruction on healthy vocal technique, musicality, and diverse repertoire from all communities, cultures, and centuries, supporting a foundational and lifelong relationship between the singer and the musical arts.
