The Williamsport Branch YMCA mission statement is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. The leadership team includes Executive Director Jeremy Bottorf, Membership Director Darbie Johnson, Aquatics Director Jayda Beagle, Wellness Director Megan Swarthout, School Age Childcare Director Matt Derrick, Loyalsock Child Care Center Director Denise Lang, and Maintenance Technician David Zeigler. The YMCA states that it serves the community through programs and services that focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, and reports that in 2024 the River Valley Regional YMCA provided more than $1,089,398 in services to the community, impacting over 3,037 children and youth, 9,993 seniors, and 38,213 individuals and families.
The Williamsport YMCA history includes a first public meeting on March 23, 1866, a move to Fourth and Elmira Street in 1917, and dedication of a new building with two gymnasiums in 1923. In 1947 the Williamsport YMCA contained eighteen bowling lanes, and in 1963 paddle, handball, and squash courts and a men’s health club were added. The Family Center opened on Elmira Street in 1977, a new Arena opened in 1996 that hosted soccer, basketball and hockey leagues, events, parties, skating and other activities, and the Williamsport Branch YMCA moved to a new facility on the corner of Walnut and High Street in December 2014.
Aquatics guidelines state that children 7 years and under must have an adult in the water within arm’s reach, children 8–11 must have an adult in the water or on the pool deck in the pool area, and children 12–16 must have an adult elsewhere in the facility who stays on YMCA property. It is stated that individuals must be 18 years of age or older to use the hot tub, steam room, and dry sauna. Wellness guidelines state that youth 11–14 years must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian on the wellness floor at all times with the parent or guardian within 6 feet, and that youth 10 years and under are not allowed on the wellness floor. The wellness rules also include wiping down equipment before and after use, wearing closed-toed shoes in weight training areas and secure shoes on cardiovascular equipment, returning weights and equipment after use, using only liquid chalk, allowing others to work in on equipment, keeping phone conversations brief while on equipment, and keeping personal music devices at a volume not audible to others.
