School Programs

School Programs includes Stage the Page for Grades K-2, designed for children ages 3 to 7, and School Matinees for Grades 3-12. It also includes Arts and Science Workshops for Grades 3-6, with comedy improvisation, music, science-based magic, and other activities that connect the arts to science.

Programs

• Stage the Page — Grades K-2; designed for children ages 3 to 7
• School Matinees — Grades 3-12 · Matinee performances for school groups. Free tickets and bus subsidies are provided for the 2026-27 school year.
• Arts and Science Workshops — Grades 3-6 · Workshops connect the arts to science through comedy improvisation, music, science-based magic and more.
• Stage the Page Workshops — Workshops give students a chance to take part in the performing arts after attending a live theater performance as part of the Stage the Page program.
• Creative Career Day — Annual event held in February featuring hands-on workshops with creative professionals.
• Artist Cohort — Professional development opportunities to teaching artists or artists who would like to become teaching artists.
• Shadow and Internship Opportunities — Opportunities offered with local schools and higher learning institutions in various areas within the Appell Center.

About the provider

The Appell Center for the Performing Arts has served as the cultural hub of downtown York for the last 45 years. Its mission is to inspire, educate and entertain through professional performing arts experiences that bring together York County’s diverse voices. School programming is made possible by donor support through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC), and the Appell Center also offers programming to schools and other community organizations and works with local schools and higher learning institutions.
