About

The US Club Soccer Player Development Program (PDP) / id2 Program includes at least one training session, internal competition, and may include off-field educational components. At PDP events, players train and compete with some of the area’s top players in their age group. Each event may also feature a presentation to the players from U.S. Soccer staff, technical leaders, or subject matter experts, and id2 Program staff are on-site to scout players for potential inclusion in id2 Training Camps. U.S. Soccer staff may also be on-site to scout players for potential U.S. National Team inclusion.

US Club Soccer’s Player Development Programs (PDPs) are regionally based identification and developmental programs conducted within the id2 Program umbrella. PDPs are focused around the National Premier Leagues (NPL) and other top leagues in specific geographic areas, and participation of the top players within the relevant geographic area is based on an approved scouting and recommendation process. PDP invitations are based on objective scouting of elite clubs and leagues, combined with recommendations from top Directors of Coaching. PDPs are operated directly by US Club Soccer or by approved hosting leagues, such as the NPL, and US Club Soccer sanctions PDPs that are hosted by major member organizations. Approval to host a PDP requires compliance with strict operational standards and procedures, and US Club Soccer provides close oversight of all PDPs and has final authority over staffing and operations of all PDP programs. In order to be sanctioned as a PDP, the local host or premier league must submit a PDP Sanctioning Application to US Club Soccer, which must include one top-quality full-sized field, game officials and certified athletic trainers, a list of staff members for approval, a proposed schedule for approval, and assistance in negotiation of a host hotel for players and staff. If the application is approved, the local host and league must also provide a complete list of participants for approval, national team-level player recommendations for the id2 Program, and a technical report within ten days of the event using the template provided by US Club Soccer. Top-level facilities and equipment, including one full-size 11 vs. 11 field and referees, are required for these events.

Established in 2004, the id2 Program operates under US Club Soccer, which is a National Association member of the U.S. Soccer Federation and a non-profit organization committed to the development and support of soccer clubs in the United States. US Club Soccer’s mission is to foster the growth and development of soccer clubs throughout the United States, creating the best possible environment for players of all ages in every club. The organization is led by a Board of Directors, all of whom must be experienced coaches with national licensing in member soccer clubs, and its talent identification efforts for PDPs are overseen by US Club Soccer Sr. Director of Talent Identification Ross Paule. Through US Club Soccer, all of a club’s programs – recreational, youth competitive, and adult – are able to be united under one organizational umbrella, and US Club Soccer’s programming has been developed with strong input from clubs around the country and with a minimum of rules and restrictions to allow efficient and innovative operations.
