About
Brookings Community Theatre offers theatrical entertainment through main stage shows, fall shows, spring shows, and a summer show. The program includes educational opportunities and performance opportunities for people of all ages.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Board Meeting Monthly Meeting is the 2nd Thursday every month at 5:30pm.
Brookings Community Theatre was unofficially formed in 2001, with its first stage show produced in 2002, and in 2010 it became a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Its mission is to enrich Brookings and surrounding communities by providing theatrical entertainment and offering educational and performance opportunities for people of all ages. The organization strives to provide three main stage shows per year and is known for the quality of its shows. Meetings are open to the public, and any person interested in attending a meeting is asked to contact the organization before 1pm on the 2nd Thursday to obtain the meeting location. Brookings Community Theatre operates on donations from local private and corporate sponsors, and all donations are tax-deductible. The Board of Directors includes Jason Soren (President), Mike Thompson (Vice President), Carrie McClanahan (Secretary), Michelle Mack, Sheila Shore, Caleb Isham, and Jay Bauman, with Sheri Bosch as Financial Advisor, Bunny Christie as Costume Design Committee Head, and Major Anderson as Set Design Committee Head. The organization notes that it is still looking for a permanent home for rehearsals and meetings and currently does not have a formal meeting space. Brookings Community Theatre acknowledges support from the Moriarity family for providing a space for properties and costumes and recognizes several local theatre organizations as “local friends,” including Flandreau Crystal Theater, Lake Benton Opera House, Pipestone Calumet Players, Prairie Repertoire Theatre, and State University Theatre. A couple of last season's shows, cast, and crew won 2024 and 2025 BroadwayWorld–South Dakota regional awards.
