• Ages: 5–18 years old

The Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering states that these camps and workshops are conducted throughout the year to give interested K–12 students a way to explore how their interests can connect to a college major and a financially rewarding career. The program emphasizes hands-on activities and the experience of student life at a top science and engineering campus, and it introduces students to numerous scholarship opportunities at South Dakota State University (SDSU). Participants have the chance to meet and work with college students, faculty, and professionals.

STEM youth camps and activities in this program are supported by STEM partners that provide financial support and employee volunteers. Through these STEM partnerships, the program informs and excites young people about STEM careers, informs high school teachers, parents, and students about high school preparation for a STEM college degree, and aims to better meet current and future STEM workforce needs of regional employers. STEM partnership recognition levels include Premier Level – $15,000 and up; Diamond Level – $10,000 to $14,999; Platinum Level – $5,000 to $9,999; Gold Level – $2,500 to $4,999; and Silver Level – $1,000 to $2,499.

One student, Skye Brugler, said, “I talked to a lot of different schools, and no one gave me as many opportunities as this school could give me…” Another alumna, Stephanie Arne, said, “I loved the community. I loved the school pride. I just loved going there!”
