Club SciKidz Austin is an independently owned franchise of Club SciKidz Atlanta and is part of a larger network that also includes franchises in Dallas, Houston, Maryland, Virginia, and others, with Club SciKidz operating franchises in Georgia, Maryland, and Texas. Each summer, Club SciKidz offers over 70 themed camps for ages 4–15, and Club SciKidz/Tech Scientific offers 42 different themed science camps. Club SciKidz now offers 30 weeks of inquiry-based after-school science club experiences, and Club SciKidz Austin also offers in-school field trips and semester-long after-school programs in addition to summer camps. Club SciKidz Austin has segments on CBS Austin’s “We Are Austin” in 2024 and 2025.
Club SciKidz was established in 1997 by owners Bob and Sue Hagan, and the first summer camp was called “Special Effects.” In 2001, Camp Young Scientist was created, and in 2015, Tech Scientific was added to the name to become Club SciKidz/Tech Scientific. Since 1997, more than 50,000 children have attended one or more of Club SciKidz’ science day camps or school programs. Club SciKidz Austin is owned by Kelvin Demps.
Bob and Sue Hagan have a combined 30-plus years of teaching experience and both hold a Master’s Degree in Education. Kelvin graduated with his B.S. in Nutrition & Food Sciences with minor concentrations in Chemistry, Biology, and Psychology from Georgia Southern University in May 2012, and he worked at the United States Department of Agriculture from 2013 to 2022 before investing in the education and care of Austin’s future scientists. The team is described as passionate educators and experts dedicated to nurturing children’s curiosity and unleashing their potential.
Club SciKidz states that it was founded on the principle that parents want to provide their children with exciting, challenging, and life-impacting academic enrichment experiences. The company is committed to demonstrating how science works in the real world by providing activities in veterinary medicine, robotics, forensics, video game creation, food science, paleontology, engineering, chemistry and biology, astronomy, oceanography, emergency medicine, and special effects. The curriculum is aligned with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards.
