Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Bend’s first Club was established in 1957 at the La Armada Housing projects in Corpus Christi, Texas, and the organization is celebrating 68 years of operation. The Greenwood Unit is a 30,000-square-foot facility on 15 acres of land. The organization states that it fills the gap between school and home for youth ages 5–18 and that after-school programs provide unique experiences that expand youths’ learning opportunities and provide a lifeline for working parents. The organization describes its spaces as offering safe spaces, educational opportunities, and a fun atmosphere, and states that its goal is mental, physical, and emotional growth. The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Bend is to enable all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The organization notes that everyone is welcome, that once a Club kid, always a Club kid, and that registration is open on a first come, first serve basis, with closures on all major holidays.
In 2024, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Bend served over 3,600 youth through its Early Learning Center, after-school programs, summer camps, sports leagues, and community events at 17 locations, including the Greenwood Unit and 16 on-site after-school programs at Flour Bluff ISD, Ingleside ISD, and Corpus Christi ISD. Community involvement has included a Drop Everything and Read event at Gloria Hicks Elementary School, a donation from Walmart Greenwood during its special Grand Opening Day, and a $5,000 grant from the Texas Bar Foundation during its Fall 2025 grant cycle. The organization’s leadership includes Interim CEO Dr. Ralph Silva and Board President Ben Molina.
