Pengu Swim School offers Baby Swim Lessons with parent/child classes that focus on comfort, acclimation, safety, breath control, and floating. It also offers Baby 2, Toddler 1, Toddler 2, Junior, Beginner 1, Intermediate 1, Beginner 2, Intermediate 2, Advanced, Pro, and Swim Academy, with activities such as bobs, glides, back floating, self-save behaviors, rollover breath technique, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, flip-turns, treading water, and lap swimming.

Programs

  • Baby Swim Lessons — 4 months to 14 months · Parent/child class. Focuses on comfort, acclimation, safety, breath control, and floating.
  • Baby 2 — 15 months to 36 months · Parent/child class. Builds on Baby 1 and adds more toddler-level activities to prepare for Toddler classes.
  • Toddler 1 — 2-3 years old · Focuses on comfort, acclimation, safety, bobs, glides, back floating, and self-save behaviors.
  • Toddler 2 — 2-3 years old · Focuses on self-saving skills and semi-independent swimming using the rollover breath technique.
  • Junior — 3-4 years old · For students with little to no experience in the water. Focuses on comfort, acclimation, basic water safety, breath control, body positioning, floating, gliding, and kicking.
  • Beginner 1 — 5+ years old · For older children with little to no experience in the water. Focuses on comfort, acclimation, basic survival skills, and breathing with faces in the water.
  • Intermediate 1 — 2+ years old · Focuses on survival swimming using the rollover breathing method.
  • Beginner 2 — 5+ years old · Introduces freestyle and backstroke skills, including big arms, side breathing, kicking on the back, and self-saving by submerging and recovering to a float position.
  • Intermediate 2 — 3+ years old · Transitions swimmers from survival swimming to technical swimming; swimmers have learned to swim across the pool independently.
  • Advanced — 3+ years old · Focuses on fine-tuning freestyle and backstroke to a competition-ready level and introduces breaststroke, butterfly, flip-turns, treading water with endurance, and swimming laps with endurance.
  • Pro — 5+ years old · Focuses on technical elements of all four competitive strokes, in-water racing starts, and flip-turns.
  • Swim Academy — A year-round swim program with hour-long, curriculum-based practice to improve stroke technique and endurance.

About the provider

Tiffany and Lothar Hofbauer are the founders and owners of Pengu Swim School, and they have been business owners since 1999. The program states a mission to help children and their parents learn water safety while becoming strong, confident swimmers in a safe and positive environment. The school says its staff are certified and Red Cross certified, and that it was the first swim school in the city to require all instructors to be Red Cross certified and to complete an in-depth training program.

Parents will pay a prorated amount for the lessons for the month they begin, then automatic billing for following and future months. First payment includes an annual registration fee of $30 per child or $60 per family. Automatic debit from checking/savings or credit/debit card. Payments debited/credited on the first of the month. To withdraw from classes, 30-day written notice on the Pengu Swim School Withdrawal Form is required.
