Lone Star Music Academy offers kids private music lessons, early childhood music, and adult music lessons. The program provides private lessons, group classes, and trial lessons, with options for 30-minute, 45-minute, and 60-minute sessions. Lone Star Music Academy was founded in 2006 by Jiyoung Johnston and Noel Johnston. Jiyoung Johnston, the director and co-founder, holds an M.M. in Jazz Piano Performance from the University of North Texas and a B.M. in Piano Performance from Seoul National University. Co-founder Noel Johnston holds an M.M. in Jazz Guitar from the University of North Texas and a B.M. in Studio/Jazz Guitar from the University of Southern California. Their stated mission is to share their love and passion for music with the families in their community.

The academy reports having served over 9,700 students and notes a 5-star average rating. Students from the program have received annual prizes in TMTA and CMATA competitions, festivals, and the Texas music theory test, and include a 2023 Piano Texas Concerto Competition prize winner who performed with the Ft. Worth Symphony, a 2021 1st Place winner in the Piano League International Competition, and a 2020 Seattle International Piano Competition Semi-Finalist. The album “NJPT” received a 2000 Downbeat student music award for Best Jazz Instrumental Group. The Johnstons are involved in the broader music community through teaching at the UNT Jazz Program, Liberty Christian School, and Brookhaven College, and through performances with the Dallas Wind Symphony, Daejeon Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and on the “Daystar” TV network’s “Ministry Now” show.

Lone Star Music Academy offers expert-led instruction with personalized strategies and a comprehensive musical education that includes music theory, history, and appreciation. The program features performance opportunities, up to two trial lessons per family, month-to-month lessons with no long-term contract, and discounted trial lessons that do not obligate families to anything. Families can choose from over 40 instructors, and lessons are scheduled with the same instructor at the same time each week. The program notes Flower Mound and Dallas/Plano, Texas locations, with Dallas/Plano and Argyle locations now open and enrolling students.
