GTG Outdoors offers outdoor education experiences that range from backyard settings to backcountry environments. The program includes instruction that follows the Wilderness Education Association’s standards and uses the W.E.A.’s 6+1 curriculum so participants can learn the fundamentals of outdoor living and responsible ecological stewardship. GTG Outdoors states a mission to inspire and empower diverse communities to engage in outdoor recreation and conservation activities. The program focuses on creating spaces to experience wonder and belonging in nature and offers programs aimed at experiencing natural spaces “as you are,” with an emphasis on personal growth and development. It describes a vision of access to outdoor adventure experiences for all individuals and families, including people of all backgrounds.
GTG Outdoors highlights inclusion and belonging by supporting the integration of all demographics within its programs and offering a space for individuals to feel accepted, included, and wanted. It emphasizes family engagement, stewardship of outdoor spaces, fostering leadership through the uncertainty of adventure, and compassion for all. Using knowledge gained from local stakeholders, the program works to dismantle barriers to access within its programs and to local natural spaces, and it seeks to build communal bridges among both experienced outdoor enthusiasts and first-timers.
