About

Houston Met Dance Youth Dance Program offers dance classes that include performance of dance. The program also connects to monthly Contact Improvisation activities, including a jam and a workshop, and it operates alongside Adult Ballet and an Adult Ballet Ensemble within the same organization.

• Ages: 3–18 years old
• Schedule: Class options are available on weekdays and Saturdays, with hours on Monday and Wednesday from mid-afternoon into the evening, on Tuesday and Thursday in the morning and again in the afternoon and evening, and on Saturday from early morning into mid-afternoon. Monthly Contact Improvisation sessions include a facilitated workshop at 6:30pm followed by an Open Jam Space from 7:30–9:30pm, with no preregistration required.

METWORK Plus | $125/Month for 8 membership classes monthly with 10% discount on additional classes and workshops. For 30 years, Houston Met Dance has supported the practice, creation, and presentation of dance in Houston and has been dedicated to enriching the communities of Houston. The organization currently serves over 1,000 students per week and provides space for many other local art organizations. Its educational outreach program engages over 5,000 PK–12 students with on-campus residencies. Houston Met Dance is a 501(c) non-profit, multi-functional dance organization whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals and society through the instruction, cultivation, and performance of dance.

The leadership team includes Michelle Smith as Founder and Executive Director, jhon r. stronks as Director of Programming, and Lori Yuill as Associate Director of Programming. The Board of Directors includes Founder and Executive Director Michelle Smith and Acting President/Treasurer Cecilia Winters-Morris, along with members Kristen Bacon, Mayra Marin Benitez, Tiffani Gallatin, Alice Guidry-Anderson, Croshelle D. Harris, Jurnae’ Jones, Crissy Poole Dorsey, Elga Sepulveda Suarez, Celia H. Sims, and Andrea Streeter. Michelle Smith has more than 24 years of ballet training, including with the New York City Ballet and San Francisco Ballet, and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Texas Christian University.

Houston Met Dance provides dance classes to students of all ages in multiple genres and styles and offers classes for children, youth, teens, and adults regardless of age or experience level. Residency programs provide choreographers with time and space to create and rehearse new work and present these works in The Phoenix Studio Theatre. The organization also hosts a monthly Contact Improvisation jam and workshop space and offers a METWORK membership program with multiple membership levels.
