Cordovan Art School opened in 2009 after the founder had previously opened an art school in Temecula, California. The founder states that he started painting at age 5 when his mother enrolled him in a watercolor class, and that he married his wife, Jamee, during his junior year in college. The name “Cordovan” comes from the founder’s favorite color nui pastel used in college figure drawing classes, which he describes as similar to the brown that Leonardo da Vinci used in his self-portrait.
The Atascocita location lists a Manager, Paul Howell, and class instructors named Lorelei Spears, Stephanie Blissitte, Mauvi Gordon, Jadyn Olthoff, Brianna Jones, and Polina Kulyasova. Cordovan Art School states that it offers art classes and camps for all ages and skill levels, and that only the very best teachers work there. They also offer homeschool art classes for all school ages and a free trial class, along with themed art camps such as K-Pop Art Explosion, Yay Clay!, Heroes | Villains | Dragons, and Animals with Attitude.
Cordovan Art School states that they see happiness every day that comes from creative people doing what they were born to do, and they describe a “smile-smile” policy where everyone who enters is greeted with a smile and they hope students leave with a smile after class. They state that they try to create an environment that is positive, uplifting, and enjoyable so students can relax while they paint, draw, and learn the fundamentals of art and design. They emphasize teaching the fundamentals of art and design and time-tested techniques, and they state that teachers and students work side by side and learn together. They also state that there is no shortcut to success and that growth and personal satisfaction come from learning, doing, and repeating the process, and they encourage anyone who enjoys art to come and grow their talents with them.
