• Ages: 4–18 years old
• Schedule: Open Monday–Thursday 1pm–10pm and Friday 1pm–8pm
Rising Sun Karate Academy Kids Karate includes three children’s tracks: the Little Ranger Program for 4 and 5 year olds, the Pee Wee Program for 6–9 year olds, and the Juniors Program for 10–14 year olds. The program is part of an academy that has classes for all ages and fitness levels and offers a no-cost introductory course with the first month free. The academy serves families in the Atascocita, Kingwood, Summerwood, Fall Creek, and Humble areas.
The leadership team includes Kyoshi Samuel L. Sprague, Kyoshi Jordan Kirton, Renshi Caitlin Ellis, Master Sisqo Garcia, Sensei Shane Zarlington, Sensei Andrew Arceneaux, and Sensei Shae Ellsworth. The Toso Kune Do mission emphasizes appreciation and respect of many forms of martial arts and focuses on skills and lessons that can be used in everyday situations, including staying positive and preparing for success. Members of the children’s programs are reported to see higher academic performance, rising confidence levels, and better attitudes through the use of the program’s 3 Laws of Concentration.
Parents and caregivers in testimonials describe the dojo as supportive and patient with children of all ages, and several mention that instructors are attentive and engaging with both students and parents. Multiple families report that their children enjoy the classes, look forward to attending, and that some parents and grandparents have also joined adult classes such as kickboxing. Testimonials also mention that the staff focuses on discipline, respect, responsibilities, character building, and life skills, and that some families view the dojo as a second family or community.
