Variety’s Peaceable Kingdom Retreat Center offers field trips, summer camps, weekend retreats, adaptive outdoor activities, structured social skill-building, adaptive bike camps, outdoor adaptive education, and adaptive recreation. The program also provides therapy, equipment, and financial assistance. Variety – the Children’s Charity of Texas, which operates Variety’s Peaceable Kingdom Retreat Center, is a 90-year-old nonprofit organization that partners with children with disabilities and their families to expand access, inclusion, and opportunities across the state. Variety of Texas serves more than 7,000 individuals each year through a continuum of inclusive programs, with most programs offered at little or no cost either at Peaceable Kingdom Retreat Center or through mobile outreach. Since 1936, Variety of Texas has connected families with thousands of pieces of essential equipment, and over the last 20 years, it has invested more than $3.5 million in medical and therapeutic resources. The organization’s mission is to provide equipment, services, and experiences that enhance autonomy, belonging, and joyful participation in all areas of life, and to support children in exploring their strengths, building confidence, and living joyful, connected, and fulfilling lives. The leadership team includes Brittany Baize as Executive Director, Skyler Lightfoot as Director of Operations, and Diana Tej as Administrative Assistant (part-time; Monday through Thursday, 9 am to 2 pm).
