About
Rocking Horse Academy offers infant care, a theme and literature-based preschool curriculum, and tutoring for school-age children. Children can take part in gymnastics, dance, and Stretch ‘n Grow, and older children go on field trips to museums, exotic animal parks, pumpkin patches, and other adventures. The program also invites guest speakers such as local firefighters and police officers and hosts an International Children’s Day festival with food, flags, music, and games from around the world.
• Ages: 0–12 years old

Rocking Horse Academy states that it is an accredited school and has received the Best of Hays 2020 award. Its mission is to teach old-fashioned values using current educational research and to provide a state-of-the-art facility designed to give children the best learning environment possible. The program uses a curriculum developed with preparation for elementary school in mind, based on researched knowledge of child development, individual needs and interests, and the state TEKS as an ultimate goal. Teachers use a variety of methods to teach reading, including both phonetics and whole language, and the school attempts to have at least one bilingual teacher in every classroom.
The staff includes teachers with degrees or childcare certification, and lead teachers are expected to have at least a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA), with some leads hired based on extensive experience and training. Teachers with Associate, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degrees are preferred, and many assistant teachers and aides also have certifications or degrees or are working on Bachelor’s degrees at local universities. All teachers receive a criminal history background check and must complete at least 15 hours of training every year to maintain their positions. The facility includes four toddler classrooms designed as secure environments with colorful, age-appropriate toys and equipment for hands-on activities, and Rocking Horse Academy describes its building as a state-of-the-art facility for infant care and learning.
Rocking Horse Academy was founded and designed collaboratively by Owner Jane Terrell and her daughter, Director Rebecca Eichen, and Jane Terrell states that she hires only the best staff and that every child is nurtured with a grandmother’s special love. The leadership team includes Owner Jane Terrell, Director Rebecca Eichen, Assistant Director Marissa Sanchez, Accounts Manager Cody Bench, and a Corral Kid Supervisor. Director Rebecca Eichen is described as an active community member involved in various children’s organizations, and both she and Jane Terrell are noted as receiving the Best of Hays 2020 award.
