Rocking Horse Academy offers activities such as gymnastics, dance, and Stretch ‘n Grow, along with field trips to museums, exotic animal parks, and pumpkin patches. The program uses a theme and literature-based curriculum that includes methods for teaching reading with both phonetics and whole language, and it offers educational programs ranging from stimulating infants to tutoring school-age children. Guest speakers from the community visit to teach about topics such as fire safety and stranger-danger, and children experience events like a birthday visit from the Cat in the Hat and an International Children’s Day festival with food, flags, music, and games from around the world.

The mission of Rocking Horse Academy is to teach old-fashioned values tempered with current educational research, with a commitment to a state-of-the-art facility and learning environment. The program notes that it attempts to have at least one bilingual teacher in every classroom and that it reserves the right to refuse or discontinue services to any family at its discretion.
To be a lead teacher at Rocking Horse Academy, staff are expected to have at least a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA), with teachers holding Associate, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degrees preferred. Many assistant teachers and aides have certifications or degrees and/or are working on Bachelor’s degrees at local universities, all teachers receive a criminal history background check, and they must complete at least 15 hours of training every year. The leadership team includes Owner Jane Terrell, Director Rebecca Eichen, Assistant Director Marissa Sanchez, Accounts Manager Cody Bench, and a Corral Kid Supervisor. Rocking Horse Academy and its leaders have received recognition including the Best of Hays 2020 award, and Director Rebecca Eichen is involved in various children’s organizations.
