City of Laredo Parks & Recreation – Recreation Centers & Youth Programs offers a wide range of activities, including 5k runs, swim meets, tennis and softball tournaments, basketball and volleyball leagues, and track and field events and competitions. The program also includes concerts, fiestas, holiday celebrations, water aerobics, lap swimming, learn to swim classes, basketball and volleyball games, Zumba, aerobics, skateboarding, chess, martial arts, boxing, alternative sports, alternative aerobics, INEA classes, computer classes, arts and crafts activities, and after school programs. Participants can also make pickleball court reservations through the program.
• Schedule: For pickleball court reservation, families can call the main office from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
The department’s mission is to deliver services that enhance the quality of life of all citizens through educational and recreational programming and to effectively maintain and develop Laredo’s park system. Its operations include 97 parks covering approximately 550 acres, 4 plazas and El Mercado, 18 Little League fields, 7 softball fields, 8 swimming pools, 10 splash parks, 11 recreational centers, and 9 summer program sites, as well as rental of pavilions and pools. Unique features include a new splash pad at North Central Park, a Special Needs Sensory Room, a registration portal under construction, and the option to register and pay at any recreation center or aquatics facility, and it uses the motto, “We work hard so that others can play.” The program is overseen by a leadership team that includes a Director and multiple assistant directors, superintendents, managers, supervisors, planners, and administrative staff, as listed in the program information.
