City of Laredo Parks & Recreation – Recreation Centers & Summer Program Sites offers activities such as 5k runs, swim meets, tennis and softball tournaments, basketball and volleyball leagues and games, and track and field events and competitions. The program also includes concerts, fiestas, holiday celebrations, water aerobics, lap swimming, learn to swim classes, Zumba, aerobics, skateboarding, chess, martial arts, boxing, alternative sports, alternative aerobics, INEA classes, computer classes, arts and crafts activities, after school programs, and pickleball court reservations.

City of Laredo Parks & Recreation – Recreation Centers & Summer Program Sites operates 11 recreational centers and 9 summer program sites, and it maintains and operates 8 swimming pools and 10 splash parks. It also maintains 97 parks covering approximately 550 acres, 4 plazas and El Mercado, 18 Little League fields, and 7 softball fields, and it offers pavilion and pool rentals, hike and bike trails, a special needs sensory room, and a new splash pad at North Central Park. The department’s mission is to deliver services that enhance the quality of life of all citizens through educational and recreational programming and to effectively maintain and develop Laredo’s park system, and it uses the motto, “We work hard so that others can play.” The department also provides baseball and soccer fields, recreation centers, libraries, trails, rental facilities, and various parks with amenities for the community to enjoy, and it manages CIP projects and special events such as concerts, fiestas, and holiday celebrations for the community. The leadership team includes a Parks & Recreation Department Director, Assistant Directors Anita Stanley and Tomas Ramirez III, and staff such as Administrative Secretary Leydiana Martinez, multiple administrative assistants and clerks, Parks Planner Elizabeth Carrera, Athletics Superintendent Jose F. Arreola, several recreation center and boxing gym supervisors, Recreation Superintendent Nora May, Recreation Centers’ Managers Roberto “Mike” Chapa and Christina D. Morin, Special Events Superintendent Ramiro Ramos, Parks Superintendent Calixto Flores, Aquatics Manager Jose Renteria, Jr., and City Forester Victor Navarro.
