Established in 1993, Camp Balcones Springs is a summer camp for boys and girls that is founded on Christian principles and rooted in the Christian faith and its values. The camp’s mission is to change lives for the better through fun, relationships, and spiritual impact, and its programming reflects Christian beliefs and provides campers with mentors who model Christ’s love through their actions. Campers stay in air-conditioned cabins and are served chef-prepared meals, and herbs and vegetables are harvested from an on-site garden for camp cuisine as part of a sustainable dining system. The camp strives to be environmentally friendly by prioritizing zero-waste practices and educating campers on being conscious of their environmental footprint.

Counselors are hired for character traits such as patience, kindness, gentleness, love, self-control, empathy, and being fun-loving, and the summer staff includes returning campers, veteran counselors, experienced coaches, and new staff each year. Camp Balcones Springs is led by camp owner and director Christine Baskin, who is described as a camp mom and camp owner, and by a welcoming and affirming year-round team of seasoned camp professionals. Camp Balcones Springs is described as being among Texas’ most progressive camps, retaining cherished traditions while constantly improving programming and practices, and as a camp that welcomes families of all faiths and is described as a place for everyone. Camp Balcones Springs is also described as a secret, small paradise and as a great nurturing camp for both body and soul, and one camper parent says, “CBS is a great nurturing camp for both body and soul. We love it. I appreciate the activities and team work combined with the oppurtunity to be independent but with a loving and nurturing staff there that my son trusts.”
