Camp Champions combines a traditional summer camp feel with world-class facilities. The camp clinic is called the Nest, and nurses dispense both prescription and over-the-counter medications from the Eagle’s Nest several times daily. All medications brought to camp must be checked in on Opening Day and must be entered onto the camper’s health forms. Counselors at Camp Champions do not drink alcohol. The camp is located on a wide, flood-controlled lake that does not experience flash flooding.
Camp Champions is ACA-accredited. Camp Champions is one of four overnight summer camps in the country to be certified as a Partnership for 21st Century Skills Exemplar Program and was voted Favorite Overnight Camp by the Austin Family Reader’s Poll for the last 8 years. Its mission statement is: “Our mission is to help every camper grow into the champion they are intended to be.” The on-site nurse team consists of 6 RNs who are available 24/7 to handle all camper health issues or injuries. The leadership team includes Steve Baskin (The Camp Geek), Susie Baskin (The Camp Mom), Phyllis Campbell (Parents Director), Erec Hillis (Owner/Executive Director), Alex Beavers (Girls Camp Director), John Bailey (Director of Program Areas), Ali Grello (Retreats Director), Jessica Akins (Bookkeeper), Chef G (Food Service Manager), and Joanna Guenther (Head Nurse). One parent from Austin said, “You do an excellent job of communicating to parents the ‘whys’ of what happens at Champions—camp is very intentional and designed to help our kids grow into better people (while still having a good time).” A parent from Colorado Springs said, “My children had a BLAST! I cried at the closing ceremony, when I finally got it—my children are children, they are growing up, with or without me, and this is the time of their life that they need these important steps for their future.” A parent from Houston said, “I commend you on your communication with parents, your amazing attitudes and exemplary morals. We will be back as I can’t imagine a camp with higher standards than yours.”
